Stillwater, OK (UWIRE) -- On Senior Day, it is fitting to lead your team off with a home run.
That is exactly what senior outfielder Kim Kaye did Sunday at Cowgirl Stadium, where Oklahoma State University beat Nebraska 8-2.
Kaye's swing to the 2-0 pitch sent the ball to the opposite field and over the fence to score the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning.
"She came up with a hit that let us relax a little bit," Coach Rich Wieligman said. "It let everyone else let loose and start swinging the bat and we scored three or four straight innings in a row, and I think that's huge."
Kaye's home run put her tied for third on OSU's home run list for most home runs in a season with 12, as well as most career home runs with 25. She is tied with Jade Lindly for both records.
"I think in general, if you hang it, we bang it," Kaye said.
Kaye said she is very pleased with how the team is playing right now.
"When you're into it, and you get in there, and everyone is having good at bats and, you know, the team feeds off of each other," Kaye said. "With how many runs we score with two outs, it's just amazing. We rally, we never give up we just keep pushing."
Kaye will play in her game at Cowgirl Stadium on Tuesday when the Cowgirls (24-20, 7-5 Big 12) will resume their rescheduled game with OU at 7 p.m.
